The 2024 Alaska Synod Assembly voted to elect the Rev. Timothy Oslovich as our new bishop of the Alaska Synod. Bishop Elect Oslovich begins July 1st and will be installed on August 24th (more details to come). Here is a little information on our Bishop Elect:
Tim Oslovich has served as the pastor of Trinity Lutheran Church since 2003. Pastor Tim’s main focus is helping people grow closer to God and live out their faith in their daily lives. He is also passionate about serving people in need both locally and globally. From 2005 until 2013, he served as the Chairperson of the Connecticut Coalition to Save Darfur and worked to end the genocide in Sudan. He also served on the board of the Collaborative Center for Justice, a local nonprofit which advocates for poor and marginalized people in Connecticut. Before coming to Trinity, Pastor Tim and his wife, Synje, served the northernmost congregation of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America in Shishmaref, Alaska for six years. In Shishmaref, they learned to sing hymns in Inupiaq and to enjoy Eskimo food. They have two children, Samuel and Elisabeth.
Pastor Tim has a Master of Theological Studies from Harvard Divinity School, a Master of Divinity from the Lutheran Theological Seminary in Philadelphia, and a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science from Swarthmore College. He also studied at Deep Springs College.
